Improve Service Life For Solar Inverter

How to improve service life of solar inverter?

Solar inverters are electronic products, which are limited by the internal electronic components and are bound to have a certain life span. The life span of inverter is determined by the quality of the product, the installation and use environment, and the maintenance afterwards. So how to improve the life of inverter through proper installation and maintenance?

What is the factors to affect life span?

There are 3 main factors that affect the life span:
1. The internal temperature of the inverter
2. The value of input voltage and current parameters
3. the environment of the installation, that is, the place where the inverter is installed

Internal temperature is one of the most important factors, if the temperature is too high it will reduce the performance and life of the device, while the capacitor is the key factor, for every 10 degrees decrease in ambient temperature, the capacitor life doubles, and vice versa, it is shortened by half.

Improper matching of the input voltage and current parameters of the inverter will also affect the life of the inverter. The higher the voltage or the higher the current that the internal components of the inverter are subjected to, the shorter the life of the components.

We take MAX 100-125KTL3-X series inverter as an example, the input voltage range of this series inverter is 200-1000V, in this range the inverter can work.

In the case of the same component input power, the input voltage is too low, the current will be too high, close to the critical state, the input voltage is too high, the current becomes smaller, but the voltage is close to the critical state.

In this case Therefore, we generally recommend to configure the string input working voltage to the rated voltage of about 600V, and consider the electric reference characteristics of the module under NOCT condition, the string input working voltage is configured to about 650V, which can take into account the high efficiency and service life of the inverter.

The external environment where the inverter operates is also an important factor affecting the life of the inverter.

The protection level of string inverter in the market can reach IP65 or even IP66, which is dustproof, rainproof, and has the ability to prevent salt spray corrosion, and can adapt to the harsh external environment. However, in places where pollution is serious or dusty, because the dirt falls on the radiator, it will affect the function of the radiator, and fine things such as dust, leaves, mud and sand may also enter the air duct of the inverter. It will also affect the heat dissipation and thus the service life.

In this case, it is especially important to regularly clean the dirt on the inverter or cooling fan to make the inverter have good heat dissipation conditions.

When the inverter is shipped in bulk, after one quality check after another, its design life is almost the same, so system design, installation and later operation and maintenance are the key factors. In order to enhance the actual service life of the inverter, on the one hand, we should create a good operating environment for the inverter to protect it from wind, sun and rain; on the other hand, we should make regular inspections to keep the cooling ducts of the inverter smooth to avoid over-temperature derating and other failures.

Can an inverter be installed in a garage or does the inverter need to be next to the power

To get more life span for inverters, the best installation place is away from sunlight directly and well-ventilated. So, the location should be easy to maintain, drying, shady, and avoid getting caught in the rain. So, we recommend it’s better to follow the installation guide.
